Authorize.net IS the online credit card processing gateway that you want. Anyone that says otherwise just doesn't know how to code.
Basically you will need a UNIX/Linux server with PHP and cURL installed. The way it works is that you need to write code that when a person submits a credit card purchase, your server posts that data securely via cURL to authorize.net's servers, then receives a response code saying if it was accepted or the reason why it was rejected.
