yeah i have to say that post is BS...
i have so much work from labels with NO money who have paid me.just recently i did a WHOLE LOT of work for these guys.. www.gritrecords.com
the flash intro, the point of purchase posters, the cd cover, LP, 12 inch layouts...
all said.. maybe i made $10 an hour..maybe a little more.. and with clients like Atlantic Records, Rawkus, MCA Records, V2 Records, Sequence Records, already in my portfolio, I didn't need the work.. I WANTED to be involved in it.
I've been DJing since 1985 and whenever I can I ask for doubles of whatever the label wants to throw at me...
Sorry. I got off track.. but. this gritrecords cat is funding just about ALL of this stuff himself. He's a regular guy with a wife and kids and stilll manages to send me a few bucks here and there even if it is only as a token of his appreciation.
Bottom line is, why is a design AGENCY looking for someone and not the label itself. In that situation.. i could see a label saying we really only have $200 but we really need a site.
In that instance I'd see more serious people jumping at the opportunity.
Just seems fishy.
And again, when/if I get more work i can handle...i will continue to offer it here.. i cant offer much because honestly, I'm not billing design house rates... but i am willing to share the 'wealth' where it is needed.
I myself been 'unemployed' since Oct and know how it is to need every dime that comes across the plate.
