Yes sorry i kinda came off to harsh and will a foul mouth but this kind of scenario is lousy. "hi profile " clients with money say that designers should work for pittance simply to get "name" clients on their portfolio while the "lo profile", not so well off clients, can not afford to pay at all. So there is cycle of low paying work. See more on "grub or ethics" at AIGA Design forum. kinda cool.
