i tried to avoid flash for the longest time, but i just harmed myself in the process. it seemed daunting and intimidating so i postponed learning it. now i can't imagine websites any other way, and it really isn't *that* hard. the complex actionscript i still hate, but it's a necessary evil. and if you can get a programmer to do that shit for you, then it's no biggie. so yes, i used to hate it because my ass was too dumb to figure it out. it still is for some complex stuff, but how else do you learn?
as far as what's too big speaking of file size, i'll tell you since i still use a 56k modem (yeah i know). if i get to a site, and there's no preloader that tells me how long i have to wait, i leave. if the site looks promising or is highly recommended or i have a real need to look at it, i'll stay with 500k, but i better not see another preloader after that. anything over 600k, i just ignore. fuck that. people that have broadband, think everyone else does. that's just self centered and bad design. of course, i respect the fact that different target audiences react need different stuff. if your portfolio has a reel, i of course don't expec that to be 60k.flash is the shit. i love it. but i do hate the poor use of it. just like i hate the poor use of photoshop.
