I notice that a lot of designers hate flash.
Why?
Is it a trend or do you truely hate it? If you do, why not just stop telling people that you know it and never use it again?
I have been working in flash for the past 4 weeks. I love it. I think it is the bee's knees. I don't like to draw in flash, but then again I have been using illustrator for 6 years now. So who could compare. Right?
I have been using flash now for a few years. But until recent, I haven't done much in flash. I have to admit, it is quite the little powerhouse.
agree? React!

I love it, although I dont get to use it much at work. Anytime I do freelance I try to use it.

I hate it because I can't use it.
*cries*

on one extreme, i hate when someone uses it to show an image on their site,
or the other, when there's 2mb's of useless animation they expect me to sit through.

I 3> Flash!
Don't hate, masturbate!
- mitsu0
although i should clarify, i don't hate flash itself... it's a very cool plugin with many uses.

I think many people hate the poor utilization of flash.
Its like people who think they hate Kenny G, while they actually just hate Kenny G's music. Or something.

Exactly, it's the poor use of the program.
I hate useless fluff design, and most flash is useless.
Flash still has quite a way to go before it is a good service/app development package. That is what Macromedia has in store for it. It's not meant for just animation anymore.

i like flas a lot but still recently redesigned my site in html, as it ranked nowhere when i searched for it on google....

There are ways to work around that. There are plenty of good resources on Flash usability and such out there.

yeah, but i'm lazy...
... and lately stped carying for design
NO, no! Put down those rotten tomatos!

Dear Diary:
I plan to ask flash 6 the question tonight...I hope it accepts. I couldn't handle the rejection....

WOW is all I got to say about flash.
I am currently contracting with Disney International and the APPLICATIONS they are building with flash, activeX, JSP, C++, javascript, and perl are FUKIN amazing!!!!
I am also working on a MX multiplayer game that is soooo cool. We got some top notch AS coders here.
AMAZING wait to see what mx will do in the coming year!!! It is truly growing into a robust APP

90% of flash is misused flash.
When flash is used well its extra special, but I hate seeing the 2Advanced flash mentality saturating the internet.

well, it was inevitable.

I think that people over-react to it a lot of times. I don't think it's so bad when a person uses it to show an image. What if they want to use a preloader for that image and don't know how to do that with Javascript? There's nothing wrong with using Flash to do that if that's the medium they know.
I like to think of Flash as a container. I know that, chances are, if the user has the plugin, that my sites will look the same on most every machine.

In my company, the programmers "hate" flash because it jabs at their left-brain, next-to lack of artistic expression. The designers (who didn't major in computer science) love it, and picked up the programming, which further irks the programmers. Any software progam that acts as a gateway to other web technologies for the user is a good one. Especially if it makes straight-code writers learn color theory and the pen tool, and designers get the hang of arrays and variables. Some want no competition, but with Flash, it can even out the playing field a little.
- sp0
Actually, Flash display varies from Linux to Windows to MAC.
It really isn't truely "cross-platform"...
As far as doing what you want cause that's the medium you know? I know Autocad, but I don't build sites in it.
:)

I think Robert and eloosive have great points.
Why is 90% useless? I think that is merely subjective. Do motion graphics bother you? That being the case, movies shouldn't use cool visual effects either right?
Why should the web continue to be static? Why doesn't anyone hate JavaScript? Most "programmers" fight the fight that you can achieve the same effect with JavaScript. I say, SO WHAT? If you know JavaScript, then use it.
Personally, I think it's a trend that people want to follow.
Animation is not a poor use of flash.
I think the reason why people hate flash so much is because they are jealous of what others are doing with it.
Flash is pimp. For those who complain it used incorrectly, you should do something correct with it as an example. I would love to see what the "correct" way to use flash would be.
WORD UP!

if you are proficient in autocad, why not use it for certain elements.
Then again, I never knew autocad was for webdev.
