Leases here (Halifax NS) usually atomatically renew themselves unless you terminate it within 3 months of the aniverasary (a letter from them stating you wish to go month to month on your lease aniverary will also do. You are legally responsible without re-signing (the termination clase is usually in your origional lease). The letter to sign up for 6 months probably stands... its not going to matter what they said if they won't own up to it. Tell them you just can't pay and offer them a token payment (half month or something) to break it if you need. Good luck.
