Wow, my first "post". I have an F707 and inspected an F828 this past week at a Sony resellers expo.
I would not recommend it for the money mate. It has a great amount of manual features, but they are quite limited ('f' stop max value of 8 for example = not good enough in my books.)
I guess it totally depends on what you want to do and what is right for you, but looking ahead, DSLR is the next stop for me even though I love my F707. I think you would get frustrated as you got more and more into it.
