Flash is slower on Macs because:
#1 Advantages of WinIE being an integral part of the OS
#2 WinIE uses DirectX that allows plugins better access to resources
#3 Windows is a more mature OS (it's been around longer)
#4 the Mac player, for some reason, does not handle bitmaps as well as the Windows plugin. I suspect this has to do with developing it for the inferior OS9. Things may change once OSX has been around longer and Flash can be tweaked/optimized for it better (and OS9 support can be dropped)
#5 older versions of the mac plugin (pre version 6) had a freakish bug where it wouldnt recgonize 30/40/50/60 FPS and would default back to the previous tier. The work around was to tweak it up to 31/41/51 etc
This has been fixed and is no longer an issue.#6 There are more PCs
which means more development resources from MacroMedia.#7 PCs are faster.
Mhz for Mhz Macs are faster - but PCs still hold a firm lead in raw computing power.
This will hopefully flip-flop with the introduction of the IBM970 into the PowerMac line later this year (we hope!)
