we've always been this way. materialism has been the american way for decades. the first thing most men wanted to do when they got home after WW II was 'buy a car'. We've been a nation of non-carpoolers for a while. people act as if this is some new thing that happend over night. it's been here.

There's nothing that can be done about the government side of things. He who has the gold makes the rules. Politicians make big-ass money...positions of power typically make big-ass money. No vote will change that. Nobody's going to vote for themselves to take a paycut from 6 figures to mid five figures. I don't care what kind of government you live under, that's just how it is.

American's like to brag about how open minded we are, but compared to europe, I thing we're conservative.

    Example:
Why does an auto racer like Michael Schumacher makes close to 100mil a year (sponsorships and contingencies, etc) while a nascar driver may only make that in his entire career? Nascar is isolated to the US. It gets more air time and promotion here than F1 on the mainstream level, yet they don't make as much $$$ as an F1 driver. To me, that's a reflection of how the US is. We have our little box we like to stay in....open up the box to remind the rest of the warehouse that were here, and then close it up.

Sad. Makes me want to live elsehere....hey, any room in sweden? My mom's from there.
