There are always going to be extreme examples of people flaunting it, being addicts, or even operating heavy machinery while under the influence. However, what did the company do when they found out that they had a heroin addict supervisor? Did they pay for and send him in for rehabilitation, or did they simply fire him?

Yes, somethings that happen in your time can affect 'their' time, breakups, deaths in the family, sickness, etc. It's not only drug use that can effect it. Just how understanding do you think these companies are about this sort of thing? From my personal experience of working regular jobs in the past, not very. If we're supposed to dedicate our time and energy towards furthering their cause and selling their products then the least workers could ask for is a little respect and understanding. Hell, even some support for when things go wrong.

There are companies that do this and there are companies that don't... and though you can say that it is up for you to decide. But some people can't afford to decide and that makes me sad.
