Ok, well on the back of my Poe anthology in school it said that Poe practically invented the MODERN detective story. So i guess there's something in that - modern thing.
But that's interesting about the Rue Morgue. I only seen the hammer horror film with Peter Cushing. Asexual? Billy Wilder made a film called The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes where it was more than implied Holmes was significantly homosexual and it freaked Watson out.
