    There are no rules. "If you're going to do it, go all out..." is crazy. That's what I thought ten years ago and now I totally regret it.

    By the way, people do everything they can to avoid having their tattoo fade. Not sure why you want it to look faded. But, since you do, go sit out in the sun every day for hours. It'll fade pretty quickly.

    Other than than, not much else you can do. It's a bit late to turn back now.

    I personally like them pitch black. Looks nice to me.

    I've had one that covers my forearm for about 10 years. It's black work too, with very, very thick lines. It's now faded significantly, looking now more like a dark blue-grey. I'd love to have it redone, but it's not a priority. I hate this faded look, though.
