Looks a bit familiar. I was instantly reminded of the VW logo:
The character "G" inherently has some "gear like" characteristics that you might be able to use to your advantage to develop a more clever, less literal solution.
Also, the idea of gears suggests inter-play between two or more objects. One is useless without the other. Developing some directions based on a concept such as this not only represents the company's tangible product but also suggests strong business-to-customer relations.
