you need more gradients and drop shadows.....oh god that would be horrible.
you're on the right path, just need to bring the text into the illustration more. the point about the china vs japan setup is a good point as well. don't want to offend or anything.
i would make the top 2 squares rounded like the bottom rectangle but break up the rectangle more so it's not like a face. maybe have 2 circular rectangles intsead of 2 squares and one circular rectangle.
maybe add some thin vertical lines to the bottom part to add more to the lighthouse, just a thought.
