Be careful what you wish for.
Although there are a lot of dodgy, unprofessional agencies out there, keep in mind that because they make money from hiring you, it's in their interest to get you a position at the highest rate they can. Not to mention that a lot of these places are contracted out with certain companies, giving them a monopoly on positions that would never be advertised elsewhere.
Applying for a job by yourself leaves you on your own.
I've hired agencies to find staff and it's no fun on the other side of the coin. Instead of listening to your needs, they simply barrage you with unqualified applicants as fast as they get them in because they are desperate for the commission. grrr.. :-(
