Cinema is a great program (or so I hear) and will continue to grow in popularity. Esp. considering the new modular purchase system.
Really, you can do anything with almost any program. C4D has modeling, animation, radiosity, caustics, etc., more than Maya or Max.
Don't know of many firms that use it, but if you learn one well the transistion won't be that painful. If you are actually 'buying' C4D, it's a sweet deal. But you can't go wrong with it. Plus, it's supposed to be easy to learn.
