    A web designer who can't code at all isn't the same as a print designer! Thats a lameass statement!

    A decent webdesigner doesn't need to know that much code, but he does have to know about information architecture, usability and so on. A print designer moving over to web makes shitty sites most of the times because he/she still makes brochures, and that NOT the way one should present information on the web.

    Most serious companys will have designers that works closely with developers and usability ppl, rather than one person making everything. That way the customer is guaranteed a good result.

    Everone can learn Photoshop. Not every developer is equally good at design and a designer is very seldom good at coding/scripting.

    If a company is looking for someone that can both code and design, they are likely to end up with a developer that is poor at design. But hey, the company only needed to hire one guy instead of two...
