Yeah, thats a good essay. Sounds like the lecture on marriage my old professor gave when i was in uni. It's just i think the church is the only instituion left to defend an institution that has been undermined for centuries. And don't think i'm some homophobe - but i do think gay marriage is the final nail in the coffin of this anachronistic institution. For me it's not a quesiton of giving equal rights to same sex couples - but a process of redifining what we undetstand by the words family and "committed partnerships" (whatever the fuck they are). There's an empty space being created and i fear it will be the consumeris capitalist culture that will fill it and begin to redefine the "sanctitiy" of a new marriage lifestyle and a new idea of what family is.
