PuFFi - not sure what exactly are you saying...
as far as I understand, you need to anything (photos, video, etc.) in a digital format before your computer will accept any information. There are analog to digital converters that accept an analog signal and converts it to digital for use with editing software.
Perhaps I am wrong? I will be needing to transfer analog (old Betamax tapes) to my computer sometime in the near future and have been looking at cards, cameras, etc., that can do it.
