heres what you do, during post your going to want to hit escape to dismantle any bios splash screen, depening on your computer your bios key will be different. its usually found in the lower left hand corner but not always. When you in your bios the hard drive configuration will be a main setting tab so it shouldnt be hard to find. Make sure that the drive with XP is set for ide0 and the me drive for Ide1. While in bios check your boot settings and make sure that the drive with xp is ahead of that one with ME. that should take care of the bios. Also check your jumper and cable settings. Jumpers are different from drive to drive but it usually reads on the back whats master/slave/cable select. XP master / ME salve. If the drive with XP has never before been loaded with this computer then your going to run into a lot of configuration problems when you boot, assuming you can boot because of the bootfile being different with the paths and the sharp teeth and red pain and whatnot. So the easiest solution would be to setup your drives like i said then reload a copy of XP on the new master so everything goes over well.
