the word 'emo' nowadays (and honestly i thought we were past it) is utterly overused and completely out of context.
i'm no expert on the subject but it's widely known that the term is derived from 'emotional rock' and it does not apply to contemporary popsters like Dashboard Confessional or All American Rejects.. REM is not emo, Radiohead is not emo, U2 is not emo, NIN is not emo, Korn is not emo, and so on.. as mentioned before bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, Pavement, Seaweed are more what is considered EMO, this was all in the early-to-mid 90's. oh and sonic youth is also not emo.
Indie bands are often dubbed EMO for no apparent reason, it's a completely overused and dilluted term. JayZ's latest record is like sooo EMO!
