Ok, NYC is ridiculously expensive, but come on, guys, it all balances out. There's very few places in the world with such an abundance of opportunities. Of course you can live somewhere else for a fraction of the cost of living here, but the job market there is going to be proportionally worse.
I, for one, am waiting for the day when one would able to do freelance work completely over the web. Imagine living in a tent in a beautiful desert somewhere in New Mexico or Arizona, and doing freelance work on a laptop with a satellite connection. :)
But anyway, part of the beauty of living in NYC is that you have so many opportunities, and if you're not happy, there's always work somewhere. So, why not just quietly start looking?
