i could be totally wrong because i don't know you at all, but your mood seems to suggest that change is needed, and beyond just your job...perhaps NYC isn't for you....i mean for 1400.00 you could be buying your own house somewhere else....maybe think about why you're there in the first place, then the job siutation will be clearer for you, and clearer if you should pursue other work to stay there
i am of the opinion that ultimately it is where you are at, and not just your job that make one the happiest....
as an example, i almost moved to NYC last month on a job offer, but turned it down because of similar thinking
