I do see your point, very few countries actually claim to be Baptist, or whatever rteligion.
BUT, to say it isn't the foundation and the driving force is just not true. the wars were and are fought over land, but why would people want to be seperate from each other in the 1st place. cos they are different culturally, demographically, and Religiously. or else they wouldn't be so picky about the land
