My good deed of the day,
Took my lunch and found that the landscapers accidentally knocked a bird's nest to the ground while trimming a tree. I was glad to see the 3 nestling birds survived the 10ft fall. The nest was partially damaged and needed to be rebuilt so I worked quick to scrape together planting materials, fibers, sticks, and some bird-picked items that the parents had used in the previous nest.
This is the finished nest with the nestlings transferred in. It's a nice spacious bird pad now that will be stronger than the old nest.
While building the new nest, the parents watched over me, probably wondering what the hell was going on.
I found a safe new spot in the same tree and added a
canopy shade since the top of the tree was a little more bare after the trimming. Now they have some really nice diffused lighting to help keep them cool. After I placed the nest, one of the parents came in for a closer look at me. Is this their way of saying thanks?
I'm not good with different bird species, but it is this type of bird. Wish I knew the name.

https://media.tenor.…futurefood - I did use sterile gloves as a precaution. But yea, the parents fed them soon after I placed the nest. I’ve been checking on them every few hours. Seems finefuturefood
- It’s funny how you feel forever responsible for them afterwards.
I almost want to get some proper bird meal so the parents don’t need to fly farfuturefood - May not be the best idea though. Idk
It’s a hard world for the little thingsfuturefood - 100% a mockingbird. The scent thing with birds is a myth, but wash your hands for your own sake. You did a good thing here.garbage
- If mama has been living near you for a while, she's probably been seamlessly recreating the sounds of your neighborhood without you knowing.garbage
- I had some in an old neighborhood down south, hits on rotation were cicada, car alarm, sprinkler, car alarm (again).garbage
