The funniest thing about the working-poor people defending import tariffs is that, if the tariffs actually work, everything will be more expensive. Thats the intended result of the tariffs. By design. To level the playing field by raising the price of things.

- I know we know, but it’s just so hilarious that people don’t see the most basic aspect of it********
- Not only that, they are celebrating it. So much shit about how we have to get bad before it gets great. Just wow.monospaced
- I think the idea about getting rid of the income tax is the flip-side of the tariffs. Tariffs _should_ prevent offshoring profits to avoid income taxmonNom
- With no income tax, people and businesses _should_ have more money to offset rising input prices... pretty risky maneuver to pull off.monNom
- and of course all the businesses are optimized for the old environment, so they are much less valuable in the new environment --hence stock market pain.monNom
- lol, there's not going to be no income tax monNom...this kind of stuff is how we got into this mess.yuekit
- They've floated that idea, and they're removing it from tips/overtime/SS. Tariffs were in vogue 100years ago when income tax did not exist... might happen.monNom
- Also definitely MIGHT NOT, but there's precedent for it in history, and it definitely solves for tax evasion in offshoring profits, and the cash economy.monNom
- This is just my read on the tea-leaves. Maybe there are tariffs AND income-tax. But that's going to blow up the laffer curve and reduce total revenue.monNom
