One door closes, another opens.
The final project I worked on as a Studio Assistant at Staab Studios has officially opened in New Jersey—and the building looks incredible. Staab Studios was responsible for many of the models throughout the space. For about two and a half years, I had the opportunity to contribute to the fabrication of the pieces—molding, casting, and building some of the larger elements. Unfortunately, progress was slowed by COVID, construction delays, and funding setbacks. As resources dwindled, the owner could no longer sustain a six-person team, and I had to step away. Saying goodbye was tough—it was a meaningful chapter, and walking away wasn’t easy. However, I did hear about another place...
In Kansas City, a Children’s Literature Museum called The Rabbit Hole was under construction—a whimsical world brought to life with playful forced perspective and a flat, 2D aesthetic inspired by classic book illustrations. I applied, and soon after, I was hired as a Sculptor and General Fabricator. Everything is built in-house, and one of the most rewarding parts of the job is hearing guests move through the space—laughing, talking, completely immersed. Fuel for the soul.
