Dude announced a 25% tariff set to take effect April 2 on all cars and parts shipped to the United States.

"The tariff will be applied not just to foreign-made cars but also to car parts, including engines and transmissions."

This is big news imo esp the parts. I mean Americans who haven't already noticed the $25 Rice Krispies at the supermarket will surely clue in when that Kia is $150k, might as well be?

And just getting your car fixed will be a ridiculous expense?

    • who needs fancy well-made affordable foreign cars? I say bring back the K-Car!_niko
    • Read somewhere tonight they are reconsidering tariffs on parts duh
      ********
    • The parts thing will be a really obvious inflated expense for any owners of any car really, like modern car parts aren't already expensive enoughprophetone
    • Something simple like xenon light replacements are already hundreds as it is and I've personally dealt with replacing those a few timesprophetone
    • It might be a good idea to reconsider this move lolprophetone
    • Eggs are one thing but when your headlight goes out and it's LITERALLY $1000 to fix a single light bulb in the US the locals will noticeprophetone
    • In our local news the headlines were "Trump declared war on cars not made in the US"
      ********
    • Yeah well doesn't really tell the whole storyprophetone
    • But I guess he really doesn't know Ford and Tesla produce cars in EU and China too
      ********
    • God Bless Americabigrobot
    • The thing is that all those parts go into new cars to. The steel and aluminum come from Canada. +25%. The. They get stamped and moulded in USA. +25%monNom
    • Then they get assembled in Canada in enormous, miles long assembly lines before going back across the border to be sold +25%.monNom
    • 4 of the top 5 took and die makers are in Windsor Ontario. Every automaker relies on them for moulds for every new model, refresh, repair, custom tool.monNom
    • There’s not just a talent shortage preventing that work being done elsewhere, there are patents and institutional knowledge.monNom
    • The tariffs are going to produce far less selection and higher prices for domestic autos. Unlikely the assembly lines get rebuilt anytime soon.monNom
    • What do Rice Krispies have to do with tariffs?monospaced
    • Because Snap, Crackle and Pop are actually the Koch Brothersprophetone
