I thought I was past this
Slinging business cards at monthly networking events
It's been 25+ years since I attended one of these
Everyone's in suits and I'm in my daily black t and jeans

Apparently . . . it made people flock to me
    Like I didn't care I was there, no . . .
I care, it just doesn't matter to me
    That's all they talked about
Maybe it was because I was the NEW face
Fresh meat for their stale lives, their stale jokes

    "Suit at the cleaners?"
    No, I have 6
    "Hey, you look comfortable!"
    Thanks, I am . . . are you?
    I don't wear suits anymore
    Unless it's a funeral or a wedding
    that warrants it

    No questions about
    what I do
    my skillset
    who I am
    were asked
until after comments on my clothes were made

    I'm done
    I should retire
    all my contacts are retiring
I don't want to make new ones
    to explain myself
    again, and again, and again
    over, and over, and over

Change is a good thing, right?
    It means I'm growing right?
I thought I had already grown enough
    There I go thinking again

Oh well, see you all next month

    • That sounds like a success to me. People had a reason to approach you. An instant conversation starter, and a way to remember you.monNom
    • ^that's amazing - but it shows how formulaic that kind of tune ishans_glib
    • The creative guy —of course, he was in a T-shirt and jeans. Suits are jealous, they could never pull it off. They’ve got nothing to sell but their suit.monNom
