yes of course, but make sure you have loaded the swf completely before triggerring the gotoAndPlay method!!
for example it won't just work like this.loadmovie("bla.swf") and this.gotoAndPlay(123)
put an flag whether it has loaded completely or not and then fire the gotoAndPlay method.hth.
