If we want to re evaluate the necessity of marraige then the first thing we need to do is get rid of Debeers. I mean, talk about a monopolistic company that fuels the fire!! 2 Months pay for a ring!? That's the problem!! Pure consumerism!! Although, I'll admit, some of the adds are pretty slick.
My folks have thin gold bands, no diamonds, and they've never thought of getting something better. Not that they can't afford it, but they see it as frivolous - they don't need it to know they love each other. Now that's what it's supposed to be about.
Here's an idea: why don't people apply for them? And while we are at it, people should prove they can be fit for parenting, too. Our world is too crowded for abusive, selfish parents. Surely most gay couples would be better than the average American family for raising children! At least they would not take it for granted.
We just have to stop Bush and his extremism. If we get him out now, we can reverse all this crap, if not, this country will be torn in two like never before.
