    Yesterday in Brooklyn, a group of NYPD officers pursued, threatened, attempted to tase, and then shot a man after he jumped the turnstile without paying the fare of $2.90. Eyewitnesses at the scene stated to local news media that NYPD officers fired multiple live rounds in the station, with 2 bystanders being hit.

    For failure to pay $2.90, the NYPD—whose annual budget stands at $5.83 billion—attempted to take a man’s life. NYPD officers shot 2 other bystanders, and even shot one of their own officers. The crime to be charged—theft of services—is an increasingly common one appearing at arraignments across New York City, as NYC City Council and Eric Adams expand their war on poverty with the NYPD as their vehicle to do so
