i don't see what the big deal is. it's incredibly hard to get a constitutional amendment passed (they've been going on about the flag burning one for over ten years now), so that won't happen.
from the looks of it, civil disobedience is gonna be the way, with more and more city halls issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. the world hasn't ended yet, so maybe those marriages really aren't so bad.
In the end, Bush is just using this to distract us from all the issues he's fucked up on.
