This can't be right can it? can anyone confirm? I've always wanted to take the family to Japan but assumed it'd be prohibitively expensive, at these prices it would have been cheaper for us to go to Tokyo flights and all than our drive to Boston FFS.

    • Daily life in Japan is very inexpensive at the moment, with the yen being at its weakest in 30 years.spl33nidoru
    • Spent 6 months there last year, most expensive meal : $25, usual meal : $5-$10
To-go food court meals are 50% off after certain times.

    • And I'm talking about central Tokyo.
You can of course spend much more if you want, but the prices I listed are for regular meals without trying to save money

    • It's to do with the exchange rate. The Yen has really weakened over the last 4 years.mutanthands
    • Go to Tokyo! If you got kids they'll love it! Food is amazing, not overpriced. Substantially better quality food than you'll get in the US for the same cost.microkorg
    • Even the Sushi/Sushimi you get in the supermarkets is better quality than some restaurants at home. ;)microkorg
    • And even if the holiday is a little more expensive, it's a life experience! Tokyo will blow your kids minds. Boston is the same as any other US city.microkorg
