i've always found cable to be far more reliable.. at least in nyc.
I've had dsl from providers in the past 3 years, and all of them had intermittent problems where i'd be down for at LEAST 15 minutes at least once a day. Sometimes that stretched to 2 hours and soemtimes to 3 - 5 times a day. So I've never actaully paid for dsl, as I wouldn't pay for the shoddy service.
2 of those 3 times I moved to cable and I've had NO problems (besides one outage for 10 minutes a few months back. That's after 8 months and now this time for over a year.
dsl can be faster depending on the plan yo ucan afford, but for home service, watch what you get. For instance, Verizon owns the lines in NY, so even if you go with earthink ,etc, they go throug Verizon.
Who cares, right? Well, it turns out Verizon limits all dsl to 768 / 384 insted of Earthlink's advertised 1500 / 384. Another reason I switched to cable, which is twice as much but 1/10th the hassle.
