I grew up in a shit education system in the south. One year, my first period teacher had the Ten Commandments and a ceremonial paddle on the wall.
I believe I'm the only child he ever used it on, because corporal punishment was already illegal, but I refused to recite the pledge of allegiance when it came over the intercom.
To be clear, it wasn't political, I think I was only 10? I just thought it was boring and weird.
And after the first "GARBAGE GET OUT OF YOUR DESK", got my first spanking, slaps in the hallway and sent to the principal's office..
My only thought was "Lol that dude's a pussy, I just found a get out of class for free pass".
It took him far too long to figure out that he was being gamed by a child. Ceremonial dismissals from class devolved into me not even having to show up. I'd just go sleep in the gym and skip class, because I was old enough to know I wasn't going to learn anything but shit in that place.
