Just about any full-frame digital camera from the last 10 years will be just fine, they really haven't improved much.
If lifestyle photography means people, then the 5D is the one to get for solid autofocus. You can probably get just 1 good zoom lens. Something like a 24-70 F2.8 will give you a lot of flexibility. Next might be a 70-200 F2.8 for more fashion-focused work (less wide-angle distortion). or a macro lens for close-up food/product stuff.
Try to buy used if you are just dipping your toe in the water. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck.
