What I want to know is who these people are who switched their votes to Trump AFTER he tried to pull off a half-baked coup, let a million Americans die over COVID, he's found guilty of raping a woman and defaming her and is charged with around a hundred felonies.
This can't just be Trump's base because that only got him within 7 million votes of winning last time, now he's leading Biden in most polls.
Of course Americans don't always do the most rational thing but it seems quite radical for say, suburban white women to vote for a criminal rapist wannabe dictator. Nonetheless Trump is leading among that demographic.
- The polarisation of political tribes, fostered by both sides, leads to a 'belief' that people are the problem rather than an idea. The thinking seems to...Morning_star
- ...be that "if you promote that person, i won't. If you attack that person, i'll defend them" regardless of their actions or facts. This is entirely evident...Morning_star
- ...in our very own Donald Trump thread. There's no discussion of facts or policy just a regurgitation of media venom towards the person. Truth is rejected...Morning_star
- ...because of the spokesperson not because of the strength of the idea.Morning_star
- ^ uh, what's not factual about yuekit's post? Those are all FACTS. That's the problem, lazy, sad people reject the truth and support his orange ass.formed
- and when facts are presented, they put their head farther up his ass and mumble something about deep state, media bad, fake news, blah blah.formed
- Policy? LOL gtfo. Okay Morning, let’s talk about his policy, you go first. You can’t even do it without making him look even worse.monospaced
- FACT is that Trump is an honest problem for this country. His existence is a threat to democracy and more. Anyone who supports him supports him is an idiot.monospaced
- He’s a convicted fraud, convicted sexual offender, convicted tax evader, and is quite possibly the worst leader this nation has ever had. He can barely speak.monospaced
- "now he's leading Biden in most polls." Wasn't he leading in most polls in the 2020 election? How did that work out for him?jonny_quest_lives
- Red Wave is what I think they all kept saying...jonny_quest_lives
- Trump didn’t win over a single democrat since he attempted a government insurrection he is clearly guilty of spearheading, or the vote tampering.monospaced
- Biden could easily come back and win again but the polls now are very different from in 2020.
https://projects.fiv…yuekit - The polls could also be overestimating Trump's support but either way, he's in contention.yuekit
- @Morningstar Before you even get to talking about ideas, if the candidate is a rapist charged with a hundred felonies that's probably not great right?yuekit
- If it was anyone other than Trump they would not be running for president, the media would declare their career over and they'd resign out of shame.yuekit
- @yuekit what’s so special about Trump then? Why is he the cretin of choice for half the US population? Why is he leading the odds at most book makers to win...Morning_star
- ...next presidential election?Morning_star
- @mono. (BTW I don’t disagree) Why do you think that half of the US find him (potentially) a better option for president?Morning_star
- Yeah that's what I was asking. Obviously he built a cult of personality among his followers but it's weird more people seem to be supporting him now.yuekit
- BTW you should probably be concerned about it too since one of the things Trump is saying he might do is withdraw the US from NATO.yuekit
- Whether he would actually follow through on that who knows but it's an example of the kind of chaos you would get with him being President again.yuekit
- So why would Americans want to vote for that? It seems like a really dumb idea.
https://www.nytimes.…yuekit - That's the point I was attempting (badly) to make. There seems to be two opposing positions, supporters of which resort to name calling and insults. Not facts..Morning_star
- ..or reasoned debate. The absence of coherent policy or initiatives just leaves blind loyalty on both sides. The focus on throwing inane insults at an...Morning_star
- ...obviously flawed man seems only to encourage his supporters. And that concerns me, what's the next step, picking up a gun?Morning_star
- @Morning_star, At what point do you look at a pile of vomit and just clean it up instead of trying to reach across the aisle to the chunks to reason with them?CyBrainX
- Trump is the one centering everything around himself and his personal grievances. He does have some policies...build the wall is a policy, withdraw from NATOyuekit
- trade protectionism, global warning denial and repealing abortion rights are policies.yuekit
- You're suggesting it's just him that's the problem. If that was the case, then it should be quite easy to ignore his poison and find another candidate. But...Morning_star
- ..it's him, his cohorts and supporters. You can ridicule him all day and invigorate his supporters even more but it concerns me what that leads to. I have no...Morning_star
- ..love for the man and can't understand how he even got to the Whitehouse the first time around, but he didn't do it on his own. And so unless you reach...Morning_star
- ...across those conversations and understandings happen across the aisle I dread to think what could happen.Morning_star
- [ignore the last post]...across the aisle and have those conversations and understandings I dread to think what could happen.Morning_star
- I'm suggesting Trump is a problem the same way any authoritarian leader or demagogue is. Of course people also support him, again same way they do foryuekit
- Erdogan, Putin, Hugo Chavez, Xi Jinping and other shithead leaders around the world. Somehow I don't think you'd be blaming the anti-Hugo Chavez votersyuekit
- and saying the real problem is they don't talk to his supporters enough. People can just be fooled by corrupt politicians promising them things that aren't realyuekit
- Trump's voters for instance are convinced that Trump won the last election, in spite of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Good luck talking them out of it.yuekit
- Wow. You really think the US has an authoritarian/corrup... political regime equivalent to that of Turkey, Venezuela and China? All of which is presided over by..Morning_star
- ...an autocratic orange toddler who controls his party and government with rod of iron. And there's no point in trying to have cross party conversations...Morning_star
- ...because 50% of the country are dazzled by his leadership or too scared to speak up.? Really?Morning_star
- Morningstar have you been living under a rock for the past decade? :) How would you describe what happened?yuekit
- BTW I didn’t say the USA has an authoritarian regime equivalent to those countries...was just pointing that people support bad leaders and there isn’t always ayuekit
- rational or sympathetic reason for it...they can just be misled.yuekit
