Melatonin is a prescription-only drug in Denmark, so I never tried it. Until I discovered that it's over the counter in Germany. Cheap too.

Happy to report that it works as advertised.

But are there side effects I'm unaware of? Do you use it?

    • I posted about it few weeks ago as I started to use 5mg. - No side effects for me but also doesn't help sleeping me deeper as I was hoping for.NBQ00
    • @NBQ so what positive effects does it have for you? still think it's worth it?BuddhaHat
    • 5 mg, wow. I take 1 mg, works well.jagara
    • Remember, It's not a hypnotic. It's a hormone related to the circadian rhythm, that might *aide* sleep.jagara
    • Apparently Melatonin has other health benefits not just for sleep. So maybe for me it's more those "anti-oxidants" than actual sleep benefits.NBQ00
    • @jagara - you can probably get away with even less than 1mg if using regularly.Nairn
    • @Nairn The ones i bought can de administered in 0.5 an 1mg doses. Will try!jagara
    • @NBQ00 Any research you can point to? Never heard this :)jagara
    • Weird that it's considered a drug in Europe... It is considered a dietary supplement in South America since it's a hormone.maquito
    • My kid had sleep issues and his doc had suggested melatonin for 2 weeks only. He said long term use has not been studied that well and didn’t recommend itGnash
    • Great but not for long term use. Its lovely to help break a cycle of bad sleep. This sometimes happens after long work sprints and need to get back to regular.shellie
    • Also helpful for travel and quickly adjusting to time changes.shellie
    • What shellie said. No good for long term use and it can cause a dependency. It's a stop gap for a fix, but no bueno for overall healthy sleep hygiene.garbage
    • Interesting.maquito
