I live in Toronto and my girlfriend lives in Munich (that's right, the one in Germany). We've been together for almost three years. I admit that I get to see her almost every month for a week or two at a time, and i get cheap airfares with Air Canada (we're talking $150 round-trip), so things have worked out pretty well so far. Be aware that lots of problems arise from being apart almost all the time, so yes you have to have a LOT of patience to pull it off.
