These are tools for scammers, liars and for all the wannabe artists.

Results look like you're drugged, a chaotic mess full of optical errors. Viewer's brain compared to the man-made compositions, does a much bigger job to filter sensory gating and fit the details it into a construct that makes sense.

The result of this will be that the viewers get even more confused, pushed away from reality. Not to mention that such people are demanding rights to call themselves artists and copyright the output of a machine who can't even draw a fucking straight line on a paper.

    • The jokes below aside, I strongly disagree. I think this is actually going to change the world, unlike other things hyped by Silicon Valley recently.yuekit
    • Think about when it gets incorporated into apps like Photoshop on a granular level. Just use AI to generate a texture for a layer or improve the color scheme ofyuekit
    • your layout. You think people won't use that when it gets added in?yuekit
    • Ultimately it's still a "dumb system"...and so it makes mistakes sometimes. But that doesn't mean it's not useful.yuekit
    • I think more people will use it to deceive others than anything else.sted
    • Like using printers to print fake money.palimpsest
    • It all went wrong with the printing press. People used it to print...liesyuekit

    • In order to use ps properly and make compositions you have to understand from proportions through shadows the basics of graphic design.sted
    • A printer is an output device just like your display, these two things aren't comparable.sted
    • AI is an IO software, what has heavy dependency on hardware and software. No human is actually required for any of that.sted
    • Therefore, it can be unequivocally stated that the person in this story is only a spectator and not a creator.sted
    • *person as promptersted
    • I agree with you on the wannabe artists pov
For the actual artists, just a tool to eventually buy some time in some productions

The hype will pass soon enough

    • I just did a dozen t-shirt illustrations with the help of Midjourney. A very useful tool!pablo28
    • I guess it's just a tool., but then so's a gun.zardoz
    • In 6 months everything will be replaced with newer toolsdrgs
    • @palimpeset - he called AI a machine, does that make your butt hurt again?canoe
    • @pablo - please rephrase your sentence to, "Midjourney just did a dozen shirts with the help of my prompts". Don't start confusing yourself so early on.canoe
    • Suddenly Midjourney has become sentient and has set up an Etsy page.palimpsest
    • i'm in it for the drugged, a chaotic mess full of optical errorskingsteven
    • The future will probably involve everyone frantically learning new technologies for a year, then it becomes obsolete.yuekit
    • But actually I like the surreal aesthetic an app like Midjourney creates, which I assume is a byproduct of its failure to properly think like a human :)yuekit
