YouTube for not having a filter that prevents my 7 year old daughter from watching sad, mundane, generic vlogger adults and kids from spending 3/4 of a video talking about the thing they're going to do, and their dumb lives, and 1/4 of the video doing the actual thing my daughter wants to see.

She loves gymnastics. She loves ninja courses like American Ninja Warrior. She finds tons of videos of kids doing that stuff, and they pretty much go like this in a 45 minute video:

5 minutes walking around the house, mom making breakfast, jokes, talking about where they're going that day.
15 minutes of the car ride to get to the place.
5 minutes walking into the place and taking videos of staff
5 minutes putting on shoes or gear of whatever they need to do.
5 minutes talking more about the thing they're going to do.
5 minutes doing the thing they have been talking about doing.
5 minutes begging people to subscribe to their channel to watch more of the meaningless content and less of the stuff people want.

    It makes me insane.

    • or recipe pages where you have to scroll thru screeds of shit about who knows what just to get to the actual recipe.hans_glib
    • NO ONE IS INTERESTED IN WHAT YOU THINK, JUST COOK/NINJE/WHATEVERhans_glib
    • YESS to post and commentsPonyBoy
    • dude, she's 7, she should not be near a screen tv or tablet etc. should be at a piano, a book, a piece of paper drawing etc.shapesalad
    • you should be the filter that prevents her from looking at tv/computer/smart phone screens. then you don't need to moan about dumb YouTube content.shapesalad
    • Got kids Shape?Morning_star
    • ^ exactly. I'd love to say that screens aren't part of my kid's life but they aremisterhow
    • I have kids and we managed to raise them without screen addictions so far. They’ve never even used a tablet or seen YouTube. It’s 100% not hard to domonospaced
    • It’s absolutely possible to steer them toward other activities that aren’t screens. This is no criticism on mg33, just a response to shape and co.monospaced
    • Look at shapesalad with the big assumptions... My kids do plenty of that stuff, daily. They don't use tablets or TV constantly...mg33
    • ...anyhow... thanks to the rest of the feedback. Can't keep them away from that stuff completely, fortunately they do a lot more. I like that my daughtermg33
    • seeks out informative, educational stuff that she's interested in, but so much of it is embedded in the crap I described.mg33
    • Hans_glib - Recipe sites SUCK. At least there are often "jump to recipe" links these days. The "content" is so vapid and pretentious, it's blows my mind.mg33
    • Maybe the problem is with the creators not with the labeling or filters. I think you know how hard it is to repeatedly create 45 mins of valuable content.sted
    • Now I don't have kids but I would expect that it is much harder and less joy for a kid if there are other expectations than having fun and trying to stand out.sted
    • *trysted
    • Idk how other parents/kids think about this but why not look at this like you found an opportunity to create a masterclass for kids :Dsted
    • Then use YouTube-Kids version or other kids filterNBQ00
    • I’m scared of the day when my son gets his hand on his own media device.monospaced
    • 7 years old should not be on the internet.ApeRobot
    • @Ape, i dispair when i hear shit like that. It's like saying kids shouldn't go outside on their own. Idiotic.Morning_star
    • Well, it's such a hard topic, and I'm not judging anyone. Just think screens are as a bad as sugar for kids... but hard for anyone to not engage with.shapesalad
    • Feel your pain dude. My 5 year old girl watch the fucking Ninja Kidx BS on YT. Ive banned it. Cannot block it from YT. The entire family and their perfect teethnylon
    • drive me insane. Fuck these people poisoning our children's minds. Sure 10 year girls, come put oil on my 14 year old back while Im on the beach!?!? WTAFnylon
    • "The entire family and their perfect teeth"
LOL - Their insanely large, perfect teeth.
I put a stop to that fucking family with the quickness.
      BonSeff
    • The whole genre of parents making channel vids with their kids for clicks is disgusting.BonSeff
    • And I am right there with you, I have a 4 and 9yr old girls.BonSeff
    • Oily 10 year olds? Large ninja teeth?
Fuck it. I’m raising my kid in the Mountains. We’re mountain people now
      futurefood
    • The way I see it he won’t be able to avoid all this shit at some point later, so no need to introduce it willingly until it’s absokutely necessary. He’s 5.monospaced
    • The filter in question is the parent. Minimum user age is 13. Below that it’s on you. How much do you pay for YouTube? And you’re complaining)imbecile
    • Always comment "video starts at (time).". It gets upvoted every time.jagara
