    Re: Phanlo's post

Back in the day, my favorite spot was this Sichuan joint in Alabama that was an obvious drug front. Beyond obvious, I’m talking you have to knock on the glass to get in, 150 seats, empty, unlit, and when you flipped on the lights to the bathroom hallway you’d startle rows of goldfish circling in algae-coated aquariums that were all lined up in storage.

The food end was managed by a legit mama tiger, and she’d fire up the kitchen when I came in. Best fucking dan dan and mapo I’ve ever had. Just typing this is making me drool a bit.

It became a first date place, to the point where if I came in alone, mama would sit down with me while I ate and berate me with lines like “Why’d you run her off, she was pretty!”

So yeah, just a long response to the overly politically correct Karen screenshot. Appreciating great food and a great environment is not appropriation, it’s like Scara said: “cultural appreciation”.

    • @phan Ha yeah. I've made no secret that I'm a heavy on the left side of things, but the idea that Chinese people need their restaurants as safe spaces is..garbage
