This comment by Jack Dorsey kind of sums of history of the internet. In principle, he thinks no one should run Twitter. It should be "public good at a protocol level"..which sounds like a nod to the dream of open source software, decentralization, Wikipedia, Bitcoin, etc.
But in practice, he's turning it over to the wealthiest person in the history of the world, worth $260 billion, who will have total control over everything. Close enough, this is basically the same thing.

- Yeah how can he type that last sentence without breaking down laughing...maybe he did we don't knowyuekit
- haha. I've listened to a couple of recent interviews and Musky does sincerely believe that we need social media to function as a species.Ianbolton
- For us - not for advertisers. Whether he can achieve these intentions is another thing. But we'll see. He seems more altruistic than Zuckerberg for exampleIanbolton

- they are making the next internet, I don't know if I am happy or not, but this move is probably Musks contribution to make TBD54566975 a working reality.uan
- tagline tbd:
building an open, decentralized financial system for all.
It's the authentification standard of the future (for the west).uan - it's a next level authentication standard, that will allow credit scores, free money flow, and will kill a lot of bots in social media.uan
- In a way it's good but it's also scary. China implemented something similar (but more basic) already and we say it's what authoritarian regimes do.uan
- Looks like it's corporations who will implement it for us in the west.uan
- You might imagine that Twitter's board somehow has a goal besides making money. It doesn't. It was legally obligated to sell to Elon because that's their...monNom
- fiduciary responsibility. They only appear to be progressive because they calculate that makes the company more money/less risk. Corporations have no morals.monNom
- So there is a chance that Elon turns twitter more authoritarian, but don't think Twiiter presently has any ethical obligation other than to the almighty dollar.monNom
- TLDR; Twitter was already cancerous and predatory. As a private co, it might be better insulated from the demands of their shareholders for returns.monNom
- lol, open decentralized for all... damn the brainwashing is strong... especially the for all thing.neverscared
- and here we are: you go plugged or unplugged, that is the question.uan
- so thats how you reframe your - for us all - statement- lol..neverscared
- if u like authoritarian u def. have to plug in... not so decentralized after all then, but its a good slogan for idiots.neverscared
