I want to buy a new car . My budget is 35-40k. My two requirements are: has a hatch, is somewhat sporty to drive. I really don't want another SUV, but will consider one if it fits the bill.
Outside of a VW GTI, there's no options. The Civic Type R is sporty enough, but I can't take the looks (plus, I don't really want to daily drive a manual again). Same with the Veloster N. Good performance, looks hideous.
My ideal car would be an A35 AMG, but we don't get the hatch in the US. Same with the Audi S3; no hatch for the American market. What am I missing?

- buy old and modify. replacement parts for new cars and new cars are currently overpriced. even used cars are, but still new-ish car parts are $$$ and rareimbecile
