    More 2000s for me, but that's a GSM band transmitting through unshielded wires. The feds used to / still use GSM bugs as an intercept point, but their limit is 2G. You can get them for about $20 at Walmart dot com. Or you could mod an old Nokia brick phone to do the same thing pretty easily.

    So I had a sketchy roommate in college that installed one in our room, and from day one it was immediately noticeable because it was on constant XMIT. Blip bip blip blip bip bla bip. Burned into my head. Noticed it kept going even when he was gone and my phone was off.

    Took a few days to find and disable it. I'm not really sure what his endgame was, because he couldn’t even operate his printer. I totally didn’t make his printer public before I moved out.
