    1. Ukrainians are really fighting against Putin's regime, not against Russians per se, something that the Russians ought to be doing themselves.

    If Ukraine surrenders, Putin will purge everyone who was not sufficiently pro-Putin on this new wave of victorious enthusiasm.

    In a sense, Ukrainians are sacrificing their lives for Russian slaves.

    2. According to Putin Ukraine isn't a country and not even a nation of their own (maybe partly true, Ukraine did not exist as a sovereign state before USSR, same with Belarus and Baltic states, btw, even Ukraine's old name, Malorussia (little Russia), speaks of that).

    But "wars make states": If Ukrainians win this war, this will definitely and undeniably cement their national identity as separate from its big sister. There will be a massive boost of nationalism.

    So, basically, everything is at stake. Glory to Ukraine!
