I have $50k that I don't "need".
Should I put it in a index fund like VOO? Or is that risky?
- least risky exposure to the stock market. Less risk would be taking 20k and sticking it into a bond fund. Then reallocate 60/40 once a year around the same timemonNom
- weigh that against the risk of a guaranteed 7% loss by keeping your money in the bank right now. Better to buy productive assets you can earn money with.monNom
- To be fair, if the stock market crashes, you may well lose more than 7% for a time, but likely, over a long enough time horizon, you will be much further ahead.monNom
