2022 was looking to be heading in a positive direction.
Covid felt like it was slowly getting past us.

    Then Poo-tin starts a war.

After 70 years of 'Never again'.

Unnecessary destruction of homes and businesses. Unnecessary destruction of infrastructure. The waste of energy used to create the weapons, the energy used in the destruction, the energy used in the construction, the mining, the transportation.... All that energy and effort, and what's left is a mess, rubble. People say bitcoin is bad for the environment, at least that constructing something, even if it's just a record on a block chain of computer code.

What happened to caring about climate change? All the world leaders pledging this and that.

Then there's the life. Life cut short. All that energy from birth to death, food eaten, clothes worn, journeys taken and the end result is death and destruction. And for those that survive but lose their loved ones, on both sides, there's the pain, the trauma, their hearts broken.

    All for what?

I'm entirely fed up. Trying not to look at news.... but feel like need to keep up to date as this unfolds as clearly it's going to have at best economic effects, at worse spiral into WWIII.

It was entirely depressing over the past 40 years to see the wars in the middle east and Balkans. But that seemed to be due to fanatical religions, or oil grabbing. And you just hope it gets resolved and ends.

But now poo-tin brings it to Europe. Thought we'd put this all behind us 70 years ago....

    • Really hard not to watch / follow news. Any tips?shapesalad
    • 1) Accept that everything has its own place in this world, incl. war and suffering, and there is nothing you need to do about it.drgs
    • 2) War = reality check. Everything else, before and after the war -- is like living in a virtual simulation. All discussions about woke stuff, drgs
    • trans people, people who do not wear face masks etc, all that BS melts away.drgs
    • Don't get anxious about things you can't control.

    • Lots of bad shit has happened in Europe since 1952. Yugoslavia, for example.

    • @shapesalad a gigantic turd collapsed 30 years ago leaving an entire continent in conflict and disunity. there were some bad decisions made in the past
      ********
