Just throwing this crazy idea out there...most governments of the world don't actually want mandates, lockdowns and travel bans. They are economically costly and politically unpopular after all.

Most governments were forced into it because we just lived through a once in a century pandemic that killed 6 million people (probably more like 10 million in reality).

Now that the pandemic seems to be receding, most governments are ending restrictions...not because a bunch of truckers held a protest but because it makes sense in terms of public health.

And ironically this is happening largely because of the thing the truckers are protesting against...because the vaccines created enough immunity that the virus is no longer as much of a threat to most people.

    • if that's the case why is JT doubling down when other provinces are opening up?hotroddy
    • because it's ego, power and ideology. 'The Gov't knows what is best'. Allowing for more beauracracy and big gov't.hotroddy
    • I'm not saying every decision is perfect, but it's a crisis situation. For the most part the measures were justified IMO.yuekit
    • And when you look at some of the actual oppressive governments that exist in the world, the whole thing seems like an extreme case of "first world problems."yuekit
    • I think that's def the case in the UK. Govmnt proposed and then backed away from mandates on various (vaccine hesitant) groups.Fax_Benson
    • without ever being 100% serious about imposing them. If you see vaccines as the way out of the pandemic, seems a sensible tacticFax_Benson
    • Governments don't usually like to give up their new powers. How many emergency terrors laws brought in after 2001 do we still have?Chimp

    • Here in Colorado they just ended the requirement that you need to wear a mask inside stores and restaurants. No mass protest or anything was required.yuekit
    • How's things going in Austria?Chimp
    • the vaccine doesn't prevent you from getting it, doesn't prevent you from spreading it. So why not remove the mandate and stop all this nonsense?hotroddy
    • it's the principle of FREEDOM. And yes, FREEDOM is a first-world privilege. Not only first-world but NEW-WORLD that is slowly dying in the name of "progress"hotroddy
    • I don't think that's actually true hotroddy, there are studies showing that vaccines do prevent transmission. Not perfectly, but to some degree.yuekit
    • everyone that I know that have had covid, have been vaccinated. Same with masks. Science is proving the masks do shit all.hotroddy
    • Of course masks help. You're confusing doesn't work perfectly with doesn't work at all.yuekit
    • Why do you think doctors wear masks and other PPE if it doesn't work?yuekit
    • they work in very controlled environments.hotroddy
    • If you're forced to go into a room with someone who is infected, you're saying you would not wear a mask? Haha cmonyuekit
